's a look at the weather. let's check traffic with elizabeth. >> thanks. unfortunately we have big problems developing now in sunnyvale. we're talking about a jackknifed big rig right there approaching the lawrence expressway exit in the southbound lanes of 101. now, three lanes are blocked in the southbound direction. no reports of any injuries with this jackknifed rig or what exactly the truck was carrying but we know that traffic is just squeezing by right now partially in that left lane and the center divide. also the on-ramp, the lawrence expressway on-ramp to southbound 101 is completely blocked. 280 is the best alternate in the area. not big backups now but if this continues to be out there for a while which it sounds like it could, chp just issued a traffic alert for that stretch, they will just said that they are hoping to get lanes 30 to 40 minutes after the tow crew arrives arrives son scene. we are waiting for word for when the crew arrives and then it could be 40 minutes from then so this is going to be an issue for the start of the morning commute for sure. so 280 a good alter

trip. many on board are from northern california, tonight's big story we hear from family members of those on board. >> traumatic. >> some of his friends are missing. it's something different. details on the search. >> these photos from the mexican navy show survivors being rescued. this man is rescued on a stretcher, others get medical attention. it was supposed to be a 7 day trip but came to an end a day after. you can see the men crammed together, and some bowing their heads. this is a picture of the vessel that sank after being hit by storm. it happened sunday morning in mexico after a storm. there were 30 tourists on board. and 16 crew members. according to the website, it has been on the gulf of california since 1989. passengers say the boat was less than two miles from shore when it tipped over. a resident said i am relieved i am alive. monday the u.s. coast guard in san diego sent a helicopter like this one after the mexican navy asked for assistance. crews haven't found anybody in the water. kron 4 news. >>> the why of one man talked about the ordeal that her husband went

:05, happening as we speak, a big sink hole on highway 87 in san jose. that's right along the southbound side of the highway near west virginia street. work crews are out there and so is ktvu tara moyarti but what's the very latest? >> workers workers will not continue work until engineers arrive. we had to move because it was simply too dangerous. you can see where they've blocked out one southbound lane of 87 on the left and then one lane of alma avenue on the right. the sink hole is about 30 feet wide. there's a big gap underneath the median. now caltrans discovered the problem tuesday. they came out. they poured some gravel. sort of a band aid fix. and last night they compressed the gravel and found it sank. you can see where the concrete is exposed now. there's a huge crack running up and down on that roadway. they shutdown some lanes on the freeway. we are close to west virginia street. just to give you an idea where we are on 87. crews are expected to be out here all morning repairing the sink hole. damage is pretty extensive. the highway seems to be moving up. right now let's check i

in the crash and east bay, car smashes into the back of a big rig. the accident happened after 2:00 this morning on westbound 580 at the scales in livermore. you've got to check out this video. the car ended up wedged underneath the back side of this big rig of the rig then dragged the car for several hundred yards before it stopped. medics airlifted one person to the hospital via helicopter. all lanes reopen before 5:00 this morning. >>> a new study out this morning suggests major budget cuts are causing big problems in policing some east bay cities. that's doubling response times in some cases. 8 1/2 hours of fighting the fire but now the big question is what kind of toxic problems it has created for us in the air. the plume of black smoke could be seen as far away from oakland. it was burning as many as 30,000 plastic bins. the company makes those plastic bins that are used by farmers. firefighters found it extremely hot making this fire a huge challenge for them. investigators say workers at the plant started the fire. >> we have confirmed with the business owners and employees on site that that they did have employees with working with some type of open flame device. i don't have details but probably a blowtorch or welding in that area. >> no major injuries were reported. about 120 firefighters came to help out with this when it reached the sixth alarm. they even received help from travis air force base. they finally stopped putting water on it about 9:30 last night. macro plastics has been here for 20 years and never had a fire like this. 45 workers -- 45 people work here. at this point it's grateful that everyone evacuated safely and everybody is okay. live in fai

a big clean up to do. a fire broke out at daly city's skyline elementary school on christian avenue. this happened about 11:30 last night. just look at the pictures. the portable classroom went up in flames. the damage includes the building itself, everything inside, books, chairs, audio- visual equipment. took firefighters about 15 minutes to put it out. authorities don't know what started the fire but it apparently started outside of the portable building. no word of any injuries and students by the way return to school on august 17th. >>> meantime firefighters say an overnight house fire in san francisco caused about $350,000 damage. this fire started just before 2:30 this morning at a home on melrose avenue. the flames then spread to a second house. took firefighters about 20 minutes to contain that one alarm fire. no injuries have been reported. authorities think the fire started in the living room of the first house, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >>> the book written by kidnap victim jaycee dugard does not go on sale for another day but it is already

is opened up. danville, stalled big rig, 680, right lane we do have a bart delay in san francisco peninsula in the eastbound direction of about 15 minutes. >>> we'll check in a little later. fire crews spent nearly all night looking for hot spots in a massive fire at a plastics plant. this morning, the questions are turning to what is left in the air. the fire begin yesterday afternoon at macro plastics in fairfield. amy hollyfield is live where fire officials are just about to give another update. >> we're waiting for that update. right now, take a look behind me. wow, now the sun is up you see the damage that happened here at this plastics manufacturing company, chain link fence is gone. the fire just melted it. this field is blackened. it's burned for about eight and a half hours and firefighters said it was very hot and intense fire. it started at about 1:15 at macro plastics here in fairfield. they say workers accidentally started oors the fire. the fire burned 15,000 to 30,000 plastic bins that creates toxic smoke. the agency calls it the worst smoke you can encounter. residents were

towards concord past pleasant hill on 680 southbound and nearly to highway 4 on 242 southbound. big delays in both directions. there is no indication on when planes will be cleared. when the chp issues alert the believe planes will be blocked for 30 or more minutes. this accident is about 30 minutes old now. our other hot spot is a westbound on the bay bridge. traffic is nearly at a standstill. the back of this to the end of the macarthur maze and even the the the approach is battling back up. bear in mind that one hour ago there was no back up on the bay bridge toll plaza. when other bridges are not doing too badly. the golden gate bridge looks to be a good. although it is under fog when southbound. despite the fog it appears that we will have another sunny and warm day ahead. >> here is the view from our roof camera showing you the fog and also sunshine as well. temperatures in the '50s and '60s. the sun will come out this afternoon, mostly sunny and warm with inland spots getting into the low-mid-90s. we're going to continue cooling as we head towards the weekend. let's talk more about
